Gender mainstreaming activities

Key activities include:

1. Providing support for gender audits of the security sector to monitor progress and identify gaps;
2. Supporting fora for sharing of experiences, best practice and lessons learned amongst the various components of the security sector at national and regional levels;
3. Supporting training on gender mainstreaming and gender-related issues;
4. Documenting and disseminating best practices with regard to gender and peace support operations.
 

Past activities and achievements:

1. Provided technical support to the SA DOD for the 3rd National Conference on Women in Defence in August 2007.
2. Provided technical support to the SA DoD for the 2nd National Conference on Women in Defence in May 2006, which led to a plan of action for gender mainstreaming in the DoD.
3. Provided technical support to the SA Department of Defence (DoD) for the 4th Women’s Peace Table Seminar in 2005, that resulted in an action plan to enhance the participation of women in the APSA
4. Sponsored, organized and facilitated the 3rd Women Peace Table Seminar (October 2003) of the South African Department of Defence
