Natural resources activities

Key activities include:

1. Producing a volume on the state of natural resource governance in Africa;
2. Supporting discussions involving key stakeholders from civil society, academic/research institutions, the private sector, governments and multi-lateral organisations;
3. Creating a database of African expertise on natural resource governance;
4. Providing technical support to the policy-making process at continental and regional levels.

 

Past activities and achievements:

1. Hosted the first Consultative Meeting on the Management and Exploitation of Natural Resources in Africa in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 1-4 March, 2005.
2. Conducted research on the state of natural resource governance in Southern Africa
3. Presented a paper at an Expert General Meeting on Natural Resources and Conflict, hosted by the UN Office of the Special Advisor on Africa (OSAA), in June 2006.
4. Commenced development of a network of civil society organisations and research institutions in other regions, in support of the generation of continental minimum standards.
5. Presented a paper on the role of natural resources in PCRD at the 2nd AU Civil Society Consultation in Lusaka, Zambia in July 2007.
